The Lauder Institute is continuing to provide quality events online. These virtual meetings bring the Lauder community together; they include conversations with Lauder Board of Governors members, senior global fellows, executives, and policy makers. Check for updates.

Friday, April 3 (12pm, EBT) – Guest Speaker, Lady Barbara Judge (CW’66). One of the UK’s most prominent business executives, Lady Barbara Judge is also a long-standing member of the Lauder Board of Governors. She has extensive experience in the commercial law, banking, finance, and nuclear power industries, and is internationally recognized for her initiatives supporting women in business.

Tuesday, April 7 (8:30-11:30 AM EBT) – Dr. Jim McGann, Director of the Think Tanks & Civil Societies Program at the Lauder Institute, will host an interactive town hall with representatives of Think Tanks around the world. The focus will be on the new and unprecedented present and future policy challenges faced by countries around the world. Leaders from over 8 countries representing some of the most influential think tanks around the world will discuss the ways that think tanks can continue their work to better serve policymakers and the public. Open to Lauder students.

Wednesday, April 8 (4:30pm, EBT) – Guest speaker, Hon. Jeh Johnson, former United States Secretary of Homeland Security. The Hon. Joseph Westphal will host a discussion with Sec. Johnson about the challenges of protecting the homeland, namely biological and cyber threats, but they also include countering terrorism and natural disasters. This discussion will also focus on the ways that countries are dealing with the Coronavirus and its health and economic impacts.

Tuesday, April 14 (12pm, EBT) – Guest speaker, Professor Mohamed El-Erian, Senior Global Fellow at the Lauder Institute and Professor of Practice at the Wharton School. Prof. El Erian is also Chief Economic Adviser at Allianz, Senior Advisor at Gramercy & the incoming President of Queens’ College, Cambridge. This discussion is a continuation of a seminar series for Lauder students entitled Behind the Headlines with Mohamed El-Erian and focuses on challenges and changes in the global economy.

Friday, April 17 (10am, EBT) – Panel Discussion entitled COVID-19 in Africa: Avoiding a Public Health Crisis. Confirmed speakers include: Dr. Melissa Graboyes, Assistant Professor of African & Medical History, University of Oregon; Ms. Aubrey Hruby (WG’15), Co-Founder AXN and Insider, Senior Fellow, Atlantic Council; Dr. Farai Charasika, Global Health Expert, medical doctor and PhD in Public health, McKinsey consultant, involved in Zimbabwe public health emergency outbreak center. Invited speakers will talk about comparative approaches and responses of governments, civil societies and the private sector in Africa to contain the spread of Covid-19 on the continent. Topics will include: infrastructures, lessons from Ebola outbreaks, economic and social fallout, and the role of the informal sectors. A Q&A will follow a facilitated conversation.

Friday, April 17 (3:00pm EBT) – Guest speaker, Professor Jorge Saad, Director of the Center for International Studies of the Catholic University of Chile. The Hon. Joseph Westphal will host a discussion with Dr. Saad in a seminar discussing the current state of affairs in Chile with regards to the social protests that started in October, 2019 and to the health and economic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. Seminar will be conducted in Spanish.

Tuesday, April 21 (12pm, EBT) – Guest speaker, Stephanie von Friedeburg (G’92, WG’92), Chief Operating Officer of IFC (International Finance Corporation). Lauder alumna of the Class of 1992, Stephanie von Friedeburg leads all IFC investment operations and advisory services, delivering private sector capital and solutions to create jobs, positive development outcomes, and opportunities in the world’s poorest and most fragile countries. In addition to overseeing new business, she manages IFC’s $55 billion debt and equity portfolio across 104 offices.

Monday, April 6 at (8:00pm, EBT) – Lauder alumnus Chang Sun (G’89, WG’89), Managing Partner of TPG Capital, will host the second Alumni Webinar titled A View on Covid-19 from China.
