Dr. Ecaterina Locoman is a Senior Lecturer at the Lauder Institute and in the Department of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania. Specializing in international studies, her teaching and research are centered on comparative foreign policy analysis, international relations, and the geopolitics of national interest, with a particular focus on Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Dr. Locoman is currently developing a book manuscript that explores divergent foreign policy paths of post-Communist states following the USSR’s dissolution. She has extensive field research experience in Ukraine and Moldova, including interviews with high-level political figures.
A former journalist for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Dr. Locoman also previously served as a Lecturer in United Nations and Global Policy Studies at Rutgers University. Her work has been featured in journals such as Contemporary Security Policy and Media, War & Conflict. She is also highly sought after for related current affairs commentary. Besides her research, Dr. Locoman is a highly regarded instructor who leads our Capstone Research Program which includes oversight of faculty advisors and student thesis milestones. She has supervised dozens of faculty in this work in addition to providing Lauder Institute graduate students with training in research methodology. Her “International Order-Making” course is part of the Global Program’s required curriculum. Dr. Locoman speaks English, Romanian, and Russian.
