2016 Africa Think Tank Summit to be held in Marrakesh, Morocco
Philadelphia, PA and Marrakesh, Morroco – Over 100 of the leading think tanks in Africa and the MENA region have confirmed their participation in the upcoming Africa Think Tank Summit in Marrakesh, Morocco on May 2-4, 2016. This Summit is organized by The OCP Policy Center (OCP), the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), and the Think Tanks and Civil Society Program (TTCSP) at the University of Pennsylvania.
The theme of the Third Africa Think Tank Summit is “Building a Sustainable and Secure Future for the People and Institutions of Africa.” As such, the Summit will explore the ways in which Africa’s think tanks are currently making a difference in the continent’s transformation, and how they can advance a sustainable, prosperous, and secure future for all the regions in Africa. The Summit will also feature successful strategies and models employed by think tanks to develop and implement key policy areas of public policy.
Institutions will discuss their successful strategies for shaping key policy issues, mobilizing resources, engaging policy makers, the media and the public, and assessing and communicating value and impact.
Also on the agenda are topics of deep significance for the continent, to bring think tanks around pressing issues to exchange ideas. These themes will be:
- Food and Water Security
- Creating a Sustainable Future
- Migration
- Resource Management
- Islamic Extremism • Good Governance
- Sustainable Development Goals
Joining the African think tanks in Marrakesh will be: Asia Development Bank Institute, Bruegel, Chatham House, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Center for Strategic and International Studies, Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung.
