What I learned from pitching my start up

By: Miguel González – Wharton/Lauder Class of 2017, Global Program

On November, 14th 2015 I had the opportunity to participate in the StartUp Competition hosted within the Wharton Latin America Weekend. Not only was I enthused about pitching my social venture JuntoSalimos (www.juntosalimos.org), but also about what this weekend and this competition meant to me:

  • Born in Spain, I have devoted most of my career to help Latin America advance, JuntoSalimos is also focused on the region’s development, and I am a firm believer in the potential of LatAm to become an engine of growth for the world.
  • I was honored to be the only Lauder applicant in the competition, which was the first startup contest ever organized as part of this conference.
  • Anything that emanates entrepreneurship makes me excited, but this was not another entrepreneurship competition for me. It was the first time that I could pitch JuntoSalimos in front of a jury of highly accomplished investors. Through my 10-minute pitch, I conveyed how we are trying to change Spain and Latin America through entrepreneurship, technology and innovation. However, my inner purpose was to pay tribute to the amazing team that has accompanied me throughout this journey. Without them, I would have never been there.

These are the unique experiences for which I came to Wharton and Lauder. Fulfilling experiences that have allowed me to meet amazing individuals and that have encouraged me to keep doing what I love, entrepreneurship.
