I am coming from out of town. Where can I stay on Penn’s campus?
University Admissions maintains a page listing nearby hotels and other places to stay. Please note that the conference will be taking part at Lauder-Fischer Hall, 256 S. 37th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104. The address should help with planning accommodations.
I am not a U.S. citizen. Do I need a visa?
All participants who will be entering the U.S. without a visa under the visa waiver program must fill out the application from the Electronic System for Travel Authorization.
For those who have traveled to the U.S. before, this electronic form has replaced the green landing cards once used. A customs form must still be filled out upon arrival. Purpose of travel can be listed as Business, conference.
When should I plan to arrive?
The first event is a tour of Philadelphia. Although this is not mandatory, all participants are welcome to attend. The tour begins at 1pm. This is followed by registration from 3pm-4pm which is mandatory for everyone. Plan to arrive Sunday morning or early afternoon at the latest.
How can I get to Penn’s campus from Philadelphia International airport?
Taxi cabs are readily available at the airport. There is a flat rate from the airport to the City. With tip, the cost is around $30. There is also a regional train which takes you to University City Station (about a 10-minute walk from the Sheraton hotel). This usually costs from $6-$7. Finally, there is an airport shuttle service, Lady Liberty, which costs $10 (tip not included) and takes you directly to the hotel. This option may take a little longer depending on where other passengers need to go. More information on ground transportation is available at the Philadelphia International Airport website.
I’m taking the train into Philadelphia. How do I get to the campus from Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station?
Click here for walking directions from the station. The walk takes around 20 minutes and is safe and easy. Cabs are also available for a few dollars.
What does my registration fee cover?
Registration covers tuition, breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday, a group dinner, a tour of Philadelphia, and all conference materials. The fee does not cover travel and transportation, meals outside the conference, and other incidentals.
Can I choose which sessions I attend? Can I take other classes during the Institute?
No. All classes (both morning and afternoon daily sessions) are mandatory for participants. This includes the Sunday registration and opening lecture.
