Speaker Series

Guest lectures, seminars, and conferences serve to enhance the already strong instructional offerings of Wharton and Penn. They are often developed in conjunction with either an international studies course or language instruction and, thus, also serve to enrich these courses. Frequently, these events are co-sponsored by Penn Lauder CIBER and are held within other area studies or international affairs units at Penn or elsewhere in the area.

Recent cosponsored events have included the following:

  • Lecture by Dr. Richard Mshomba of LaSalle University, co-sponsored with the African Studies Center at Penn
  • "Free Trade in Latin America: An Historical, Economic and Investment Perspective," a discussion with Dr. Pedro Aspe, former Secretary of the Treasury of Mexico and founder and CEO of Protego, a merchant bank in Mexico
  • Emilio Bassini, co-founder and Managing Principal of Bassini Playfair Wright LLC, an asset management, wealth management, and M&A advisory firm; co-sponsored with the undergraduate dual-degree program, the Huntsman Program in International Studies & Business
  • "How Running on Empty Could Affect Our Economy and Our Role in the World," the 2004 Granoff Forum with Peter G. Peterson, Chairman, The Blackstone Group
  • "European Banking: Different Developments and Performance Profiles in Different Political, Legal, and Economic Environments," a lecture by Dr. Ulrich Weiss, former member of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bank
