Fund for Doctoral Research

Each year Penn Lauder CIBER awards funding to Wharton doctoral candidates. Most of these doctoral candidates use the funding to attend and present at international conferences or domestic conferences with significant attendance by international faculty. The goal of this funding is to encourage doctoral candidates -- future faculty at business schools across the nation -- to add an international dimension or perspective to their dissertation topics.

Grant recipients use the funds to pursue a diverse range of studies -- from examining the role of international NGOs in post-conflict reconstruction to longitudinal studies of high-tech firms in China, for example.

Ph.D. candidates interested in applying for funding should submit to the CIBER coordinator a three-to-five-page outline of their projects, including a proposed budget (awards average $2,000). The annual deadline for summer funding is usually in March, although the committee occasionally makes exceptions on a case-by-case basis.

Doctoral Internationalization Consortium

In the summer of 2006, Penn Lauder CIBER co-sponsored the International Accounting Doctoral Consortium, which was open to all business doctoral candidates with a research interest in accounting. The cost of this event was heavily subsidized by Penn Lauder CIBER and its co-sponsors; a nominal fee covered all programs, food, and lodging for the duration of the consortium. This event was held in association with the Global Issues in Accounting Conference at the Kenan-Flagler Business School, University of North Carolina.
