Faculty Presentations and Publications

Penn Lauder CIBER supports faculty in developing new skills, creating innovations in their curricula and pedagogy, and sharing the results of their new models in a variety of venues -- e.g., with their colleagues at Penn, at conferences, with other institutions. We also support their efforts to publish and to attend courses, workshops, and institutes.

Dr. Fangyuan Yuan, of the University of Pennsylvania’s East Asian Language and Civilizations Department, presented a summary of her research, “Case Study Approach, Task-based Language Teaching and a Framework for Business,” at the CIBER Business Language Conference in Columbus, Ohio, in March 2007.

At the same conference, Geraldine Lebaudy, a lecturer in Penn’s Romance Languages Department and country director of the Lauder Institute’s Spanish summer immersion program, and Melissa Halaway, coordinator of marketing and language programs at Lauder, gave a presentation on “Internationalizing the Business School Curriculum through Immersions Abroad.”

In addition, Tomoko Takami, a lecturer in Penn’s East Asian Language and Civilizations Department, presented her paper on “Business Language Instruction Employing International Business Case Studies.” Tomoko was also one of three faculty awarded the First Annual Business Language Research and Teaching Grant at the conference for her proposal to develop learning materials using international business case studies for business Japanese.

Penn Lauder CIBER-supported presentations at conferences and workshops include the following:

CIBER Business Language Conference

Penn Lauder CIBER provides annual support to the CIBER Business Language Conference, which is one of the largest gatherings of business language educators in the country and emphasizes business language coursework and research. Each year members of the University of Pennsylvania's faculty are invited to present at this key conference. The 2007 conference was held at The Ohio State University, March 28-30. Its theme was The Key to US Competitive Edge: Bridging Language and Business. Penn Lauder CIBER sponsored Penn presenters Geraldine LeBaudy, Tomoko Takami, and Fangyuan Yuan. The 2008 conference will be held at the University of Florida, April 9-11 (see http://conferences.dce.ufl.edu/ciber,).
